#Enchroma Glasses: Color Blind Artist Sees Artwork for First Time

I have moderate to strong Protanopia, or red green color blindness. I have difficulty distinguishing between blue and green colors and red and green colors. I fail every Ishihara Color Blindness test and much of the color wheel blurs together to me. It's not like I see in black and white by any means, but many colors just look very similar and blend together seamlessly to me.

This never held me back from creating and working with color as an artist but it has always been apparent that the work I had been creating using color looked different to other people than the way I had perceived it. In a way, lacking proper color vision has led me to rely on contrast and from in my work rather than color, but using It has always yielded interesting results to say the least.

In September 2016 I got myself a pair of EnChroma glasses that help correct color vision. This video is a of me using them to check out my own art show and see my own artwork in a way that I had never seen it before. I can't say that these glasses 100% correct my vision as I still fail many of the Ishihara tests, but that fact is clearly stated on the EnChroma website. What the glasses did show me is how much more beauty there is in the world, many strange and fascinating things in my own work that I never knew were there before, and how truly disgusting the green is on traffic lights- seriously, gross.
