ACMX Mechanics Recognized 2018

Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Vic Valentin from Honolulu and Joseph Gonsalves from Long Beach, California, were among an elite group of UPS employees from around the world who were recognized at this year’s Management Conference held in Toronto.

UPS selected Vic and Joe, both recipients of the FAA’s prestigious Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award last year, to be featured in a one of four videos recognizing “super UPSers.” UPS employees from Ireland, Puerto Rico and Canada joined Vic and Joe on stage at the senior leadership event.

“I was extremely proud that Vic and Joe were able to attend the Management Conference and be recognized for reaching this historic milestone in their distinguished careers,” Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Vice President Ed Geers said. “If was very gratifying to see the sincere admiration and appreciation the conference attendees had for these two employees.”

Vic and Joe were amongst a group of 10 UPSers from around the world who were recognized. “In a company of over 400,000 employees, this is a significant achievement, and a testament to the critical role they both play in helping UPS run a safe and reliable airline,” Ed said.

Vic and Joes’s manager David Bonner joined them at the Management Conference. David, who is the ACMX Southwest Gateways manager said the experience was incredible. “The Management Conference recognition was a first of its kind for our AMTs,” David said. “What we do as members of the Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering District directly contributes to our company’s customer service commitment.”

David said the video about Vic and Joe was amazing. “It was an honor for me to be part of this great recognition effort,” he said. “For our AMTs this was a once in a career experience, and to top that, it was held in the beautiful city of Toronto. We met our CEO and senior executives who treated us in a way we will not forget.”

Joe, who was accompanied by his wife Mary, said the recognition was an overwhelming and humbling experience. “It was surreal,” Joe said. “I’m grateful to work for a company that recognizes its employees for their achievements.”

Joe said he enjoyed meeting Vic and the other UPSers who were recognized.

Joe shared the video with his family. “Some of my grandkids can't stop talking about it and now say they want to be a mechanic just like grampy.”
