Hey guys, welcome back to NGB 2.0 and in this video I want to show you how to create glitch text effect in GIMP. Now to demonstrate this, first I would like to create a new image with a white background. So to do that, go to 'File' and now click on 'New'.
Let the 'Width' and 'Height' of this image be 1920x1080. Now click on 'Advanced Options' and inside 'Fill with', you need to select the 'White' option and now click on the 'OK' button. Next, what you need to do is you need to write some text on top of this image.
So to do that, select the 'Text Tool' and now create a text box like this. Now let's write some text inside the text box. So let's say, let me write the word 'GLITCH'.
Now let me change the font of this text to 'Montserrat Heavy' and let me increase the text size to somewhere around 350 pixels. Alright, now I would like to resize this text box. So let me do that.
Next, what you need to do is you need center align this text. So to do that, select the 'Alignment Tool' and now select the text and now click on this option which says 'Align center of target' and then click on this option which says 'Align middle of target'. Next, what you need to do is you need to select the rectangle select tool.
So select the 'Rectangle Select Tool' and now create a rectangular selection like this. Now press Ctrl X and then press Ctrl V. Now move this selection on the right hand side like this and now click on this option which says 'Anchor the Floating Layer'. Next, you need to create another rectangular selection like this and now press Ctrl X and press Ctrl V. This time move the selection on the left hand side like this and now click on this option once again which says 'Anchor the Floating Layer'.
Now create another rectangular selection like this. Press Ctrl X and now press Ctrl V. Move this selection on the right hand side like this and once you're satisfied with the placement of the selection, click on this option once again that is 'Anchor the Floating Layer'. Next, let me create another rectangular selection this time going right through the letter I like this and now press Ctrl X and then press Ctrl V. Now move this selection towards the top like this and now click on this option once again which says 'Anchor the Floating Layer'.
And I would like to create another rectangular selection right about here. Press Ctrl X and now press Ctrl V. Now move this selection on the right hand side like this and now click on this once again which says 'Anchor the Floating Layer'. Alright, next what you need to do is you need to right click on top of the text layer and now you need to select this option that is 'Alpha to selection'.
Next, you need to create a new transparent layer. So click on this option which says 'Create a new layer and add it to the image'. Let the 'Layer name' be 'Layer' and 'Fill with' is set to 'Transparency'.
So that's fine. Now click on the 'OK' button. Now let me turn off the visibility of the text layer and now let me set the red color in my background color.
So let me click on background color and now let me write the 'HTML notation' of the red color. So the HTML notation of the red color is 'FF0000' and now click on the 'OK' button. Now go to the 'Edit' menu and now select this option that is 'Fill with Background Color'.
Okay, now you need to create another transparent layer. So click on this option once again which says 'Create a new layer and add it to the image'. Let the 'Layer name' be 'Layer' and inside 'Fill with', 'Transparency' is selected.
So that's fine. Now click on the 'OK' button. This time what you need to do is you need to apply the cyan color inside this selection.
So let me first of all set the cyan color in my background color. So let me click on background color and now let me write the 'HTML notation' of the cyan color. So the HTML notation of the cyan color is '00F0FF' and now click on the 'OK' button.
Now go to the 'Edit' menu and now select this option which says 'Fill with Background Color'. Alright, now go to the 'Select' menu and select this option that is 'None'. Next what you need to do is you need to change the 'Mode' from 'Normal' to 'Multiply' and now select the move tool and move this text a little towards the right hand side like this and as you can see our glitch effect is now visible.
One final thing that I would like to do is I would like to go to the Layer menu and now select this option that is 'Layer to image size' and that's it. This is how you can create glitch text effect in GIMP. Do let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
