Flight Termination Systems and Hard Starts
The flight of Starship 11 was very different from the any previous Starship flights. Normally we have several viewpoints from dedicated space community enthusiasts like LabPadre and NASASpaceflight but not this time. Starship 11 launched right on time but in heavy fog and while falling debris made it clear there had been an explosion we could not at first be sure whether it was a catastrophic Raptor engine malfunction or the Flight Termination System.
The Terran Space Academy clarifies the components and function of an FTS while explaining the causes and possible cure for Raptor hard starts.
