Shark Encounter in San Diego

Sevengill Shark encountered at La Jolla Cove on one of our scuba dives. This gentleman was about 6/7' long and was very calm and collected. Filmed on an Olympus TG 6 in about 20' depth. These sharks are usually non aggressive towards humans but could be dangerous if provoked. The Sevengill Shark is the only shark with seven gills and is thought to be a close relative of ancient sharks. The sharks have frequent the cove year round, however their numbers do increase in the spring - summer time. Its also worth noting that sharks are a key role in the balance of the food chain in our oceans, we need to do a better job of not killing them. NEVER EAT OR SUPPORT SHARK FINNING! NO SHARK FIN SOUP! I suggest watching Sharkwater Extinction if you're on the fence about your position with sharks.
