I've been waiting to tackle this song! This is one of the craziest songs out of the entire Diamond and Pearl soundtrack, mainly because of the crazy saxophone melody that plays after the intro! This song is just so wild, chaotic, and tense, and I think that really fits the scenario of having to infiltrate Team Galactic's Base and take on their leaders!

With this arrangement, I preserved some of that chaos by having Pat play the crazy alto sax melody after the intro. I knew that I wanted to collaborate with someone else to play that crazy intro figure, and after getting to know Pat through MAGFest and the 8-Bit Big Band, I thought I'd hit him up and see if he'd be interested in playing this part! He absolutely knocked it out the part with that melody, but also played some ridiculously crazy solos on this... I feel so lucky to have a saxophonist who's THIS good on the channel, haha!

I had a vision of adding a bit more of a "spy jazz" tinge to this arrangement, similar to how I did with the Eterna Galactic Building arrangement, and for some reason, Cowboy Bebop stuck out to me as an inspiration to draw from! I studied "Tank" from Cowboy Bebop and Yoko Kanno's writing in general to get a better idea of what I'd have the rhythm section parts do throughout this arrangement, such as using a wah effect on the guitar, and focusing on the congas as the main percussive element rather than the drumset in the section after the introduction. Listening to the final product now, I can say inspiration DEFINITELY came through (thanks Pat, haha), and I'm very pleased with it! I will also say that I think this is one of my best mixes on a video ever! My favorite "desert island" album is Snarky Puppy's We Like It Here, and I've always loved how that album is mixed - it's so so cleanly recorded, and all the instruments of such varied timbres come across so well in the final mix. I used some tracks from that album as reference mixes for this track, and I honestly think I've gotten closer to that mix with this video than I ever have gotten in the past... so I'm happy :)
