Plant Protection in the New Zealand Wine Industry
One of our greatest challenges is keeping our vines and grapes healthy. We research, innovate and work together to understand the best ways to protect our plants from unwanted guests, and look for solutions that are holistic - that work with the land.
How do we do this?
We use methods such as pruning techniques and open canopies as a first line of defence against pests and diseases. Due to our island location, biosecurity planning is a particular strength of our industry. By ensuring pests and diseases don’t make it into our vineyards, we reduce the need for chemicals.
Every improvement, every step towards having a lower impact is a big step towards better health for our environment and communities.
