Pune: 84Kg Ganja Seized in Chakan; Drug Trafficking Racket Busted, Two arrested

Pimpri-Chinchwad, June 19: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police busted a drug trafficking operation in Chakan and seized nearly 84 kg of ganja worth over ₹41.98 lakh. Police also confiscated a Scorpio SUV, mobile phones, and cash, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹57.73 lakh.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, in the Khandoba Mal area of Chakan.

The arrested accused have been identified as Aniket Rajendra Birangal (24), a resident of Khandoba Mal, Chakan, and Kushal Uddhav Pathak (24), a resident of Shivsai Nagar, Sutar Dara, Kothrud, Pune.

As part of a special drive against drug trafficking and narcotics sales in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Anti-Narcotics Squad was conducting patrols when police personnel Nikhil Varse and Vijay Daundkar received information about a large consignment of ganja being transported through the Chakan area.

Acting on the tip-off, police laid a trap near Ruby Bakery in Khandoba Mal and intercepted a suspicious Scorpio vehicle. During the search, officers discovered a large quantity of ganja concealed in the vehicle.

The seized contraband weighed 83.960 kg and is estimated to be worth nearly ₹42 lakh in the illegal market.

Apart from the ganja, police seized a Scorpio SUV worth ₹15 lakh, three mobile phones worth ₹75,000, and cash.

Police are now investigating the source of the narcotics, the intended recipients, and whether more individuals were involved in the trafficking network.
