Comment PICKY EATING for tips to support your child in becoming a more confident, curious eater

My strategy for my picky eater? Play the long game by providing low-pressure exposures to foods.

With my toddler in his picky phase, here’s what I *don’t* do:

❌ I don’t force him to take a bite: this can cause a power struggle that’s hard to win
❌ I don’t make him clean his plate: this can disconnect him from his hunger and fullness cues
❌ I don’t require him to eat his veggies before getting dessert: this puts food on a moral hierarchy
❌ I don’t cook a separate meal just for him: this is a recipe for burnout for me!

Power struggles don’t help kids become adventurous eaters - they just make mealtimes more stressful for everyone.

Instead, I focus on low-pressure exposures and consistent structure.

I plan meals around our family’s needs (not just his), and I always make sure to serve a “safe food” with the meal that I know he likes, so he gets the nutrition he needs without turning meals into a battle.

If you’re navigating picky eating too, you’re not alone - and you don’t have to give up on family meals (in fact, family meals can improve picky eating, too!)
