The record-breaking trailer for Spider-Man No Way Home is filled with cryptic clues and Easter Eggs, presenting the film as a story inspired by the comic storyline One More Day (2007), in which Peter Parker makes a deal with Marvel's devil Mephisto to warp reality so that the public forgets he is Spider-Man -- similar to the spell Doctor Strange conducts in the No Way Home film. This detail, plus several other clues, like Doctor Strange's aggressive attitude to Peter, the frozen Sanctum Sanctorum, his wearing of the (supposedly broken) Eye of Agomotto necklace, and a protester's sign calling Peter a "devil in disguise," could be pointing to the theory that Doctor Strange either is himself, or is under the influence of, Mephisto.
