Preserving Tropical Roots in Temperate Zones

#gardening #permaculture #agroforestry

With freezing temperatures becoming more common, it is time to think about pulling out the roots of some of the more tropical plants, and keeping them preserved over the winter. This is most useful for areas where one can grow things like elephant ears, ginger, turmeric, and canna lilies, but where winter cold is too much for those heat-loving plants. By happy coincidence, I have several yellow-orange cannas that must be propagated by root division, so I get to do two chores at once!
