White Bluffs - North Slope, Washington State

The White Bluffs area is one of the most pristine desert wilderness environments in the entire Pacific Northwest. It is located just across the Columbia River from the Hanford site, the most contaminated place in America. It is ironic that such two starkly different places exist side by side. This remote and arid land is a mosaic of towering sand dunes, clay and sandstone cliffs, and small seep lakes. The mighty Columbia River is an important migratory route for both fish and birds alike. A place of such contrast is a reminder to all of us of what can be gained or lost by exploiting or conserving our natural resources.
