Spectacular Beauty of Haines, Alaska: Salmon Run, Bald Eagles & More!

Haines feels remarkably less crowded compared to other parts of Alaska, and the reason for this became clear after we arrived. Regardless of where you go in Haines, the scenery is simply spectacular. However, the real highlight is the salmon, which attracts around 4,000 bald eagles during their annual migration, as well as bears and fishermen. If you're fortunate enough to be here during the salmon run from August to September, it's either because you planned your trip well or luck was on your side.

As for us, we arrived earlier than the salmon, and due to scheduling constraints, we couldn't wait for them to appear. Nevertheless, we were treated to numerous eagle sightings. Being ahead of the salmon also meant being ahead of the crowds. This allowed us to enjoy the place with minimal disturbance, which can be a significant advantage, depending on your preference.

Some anglers were already happily fishing in the Chilkoot River when we visited, though. And they were generously rewarded for their efforts.
