University of the People: FREE? LEGIT? ACCREDITED? An American's (USA) perspective.

Is University of the People legit?

In this video we talk about the University of the People. We talk about the 3 main questions people have: Is it free? Is it accredited? Is it a scam?

Of course, I answer all of these questions in detail but i'll clarify here.

Is it free?

UoPeople charges a small amount per final exam and an application fee. You pay for administration costs and. nothing more. Everything else is completely free. If you cannot afford to pay, they are constantly giving out scholarships and waiving the application fee.

Is it legit?

The University of the people now has over 55,000 students and it's growing quickly. The academic board of UoPeople can be found easily and verified, ensuring that genuine, trustworthy work is going into the University. Also, there are countless videos here on YouTube about the University as well as the Founder, Shai Rashef talking about his University to millions of people with reputable organizations. Some students have graduated and gone on to impressive schools and most have definitely gotten jobs for what they studied after graduating. Yeah, it's legit.

Is it accredited?

This question is crazy to me but here it goes. The DEAC (the body who accredited UoPeople) is respected for it's accrediting standards. If it weren't, the U.S. Government would not recognize them as an official accrediting body. They aren't seen as the gold standard but not everyone is after gold. As of right now UoPeople is Nationally accredited and the best is Regionally (There are two systems, regional and national). It's not seen as highly as others and some Universities may be reluctant to accept your degree for your future studies. With that being said, Universities have the right to look at whoever they want and can judge on a case by case basis. In addition, many Universities have accepted UoPeople degrees already and the list is growing.
