Sherry Turkle Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in the Digital Age

On November 15, 2015 The Simms/Mann Institute and The First 36 Project hosted a special evening with Professor Sherry Turkle where they explored how we negotiate the balance between technology and human relationships.

Sherry Turkle received a joint doctorate in sociology and personality psychology from Harvard University and is a licensed clinical psychologist. She is current director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self.

Professor Turkle is a featured media commentator on the social and psychological effects of technology for CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, the BBC, and NPR, including appearances on such programs as Nightline, Front-line, 20/20, and The Colbert Report.

As a preeminent author of many works on technology and society including “Alone Together” and “Reclaiming Conversation”, Professor Turkle has been studying digital culture for over thirty years. Long an enthusiast for its possibilities, she investigates the troubling consequences technology can have in undermining our relationships, creativity and productivity and how reclaiming face-to-face conversation can help up restore balance in our relationships with the world and each other.
