Space Force S1E1 “The Launch” — The Funniest Military Space Failure#shorts
In Space Force Season 1, Episode 1, “The Launch,” General Mark Naird gets his big public moment when he stands in front of everyone and presses the rocket launch button himself. The problem is, nothing happens. The room goes awkwardly silent until a staff member calmly steps in, opens the protective cover, and presses the real button.
That small moment says everything. The general gets the spotlight, but the experts are the ones actually making the mission happen.
Once the rocket finally lifts off, the crowd celebrates as if everything has gone perfectly. The satellite reaches space, and for a moment, the mission looks like a huge success. But later that night, the celebration falls apart. While checking the satellite’s orbit from home, Naird spots a strange object right next to it.
When he looks closer, he sees a Chinese spacecraft parked beside their satellite. Then it extends a massive robotic arm and slices off the satellite’s solar panels, one side after the other.
Just like that, their brand-new space asset becomes useless junk. This scene is classic Space Force: political showmanship, military pride, and disaster wrapped in comedy. Netflix lists Season 1, Episode 1 as “The Launch,” where Naird is pressured to launch a satellite despite warnings from scientists; the follow-up episode focuses on saving the damaged Epsilon 6 satellite.
Question: Was this a mission failure, or the funniest space disaster ever?
