Have you ever wondered if you would be capable of being a special needs au pair? I'm so happy to share my experience with Autism and ADHD.

It’s important to have experiences that encourage personal growth, self-awareness and self-education. Fred De Vito said, “If something does not challenge you, then it does not change you.
Bennie challenged me every single day to be a better au pair and a better person. He has taught me to spot that tiny ray of light in times of gloom. He taught me how to truly appreciate life's little moments and simple joys. His smile can light up a room. His belly laugh is contagious. His heart is pure.
And in a strange way, the autism journey has been an unexpected blessing. It never was and never will be about me. When you do anything for the sake of others, take yourself out of the picture. Focus on how you're helping the other person, not how the other person makes you a good person. Instead of saying, "Wow! I helped you do a good job!" Focus on saying ,"Wow! You did great!

Working with Benjamin was a rewarding experience and a great privilege that I had the chance to interact with such an amazing child. I’ve witnessed pure happiness, became part of something bigger than myself and most importantly, serving a population that many people don’t understand has enabled me to see the world through a different set of eyes. I’ve learned more from autistic children than any book or class could ever teach me which motivates me to pursue a career in special needs to make a difference in other children’s lives.

The basic things in life are the easiest things to overlook. We overcomplicate matters and forget that, in many cases, it's all about the basics. I've always had a big heart and lots of love to give and trust me when I say Bennie occupies most of my heart. I've learned that there's no better therapy than unconditional love.
