Next, we connect this idea to a visual model. Using a shaded diagram, we divide a shape into 10 equal parts and shade 4 of those parts to represent 0.4. This helps students see that decimals and fractions are simply different ways of showing the same value. By using models, learners can better understand why 0.4 equals 4/10 and how both representations show the same portion of a whole.
