This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Genesis GV70 compact luxury SUV. This GV70 has a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission; it has 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. Premium fuel is required. This GV70 offers the most horsepower in this class but the new Lexus NX 350 has a little more torque at 317 lb-ft. our test model in Vic Black is the Advanced Plus trim, one below the top trim. It has a bold, yet sophisticated exterior design. This model does not come with the sport appearance package you get on the 2.5T Prestige and 3.5T models. It does have the same distinctive styling with the Crest grille and the wing inspired Quad LED headlights, but this model comes with shiny chrome accents throughout instead of dark chrome, 19” wheels instead of 21”, a different front bumper and exhaust pipes in a different shape and size. MotorTrend named the Genesis GV70, SUV of the year for 2022 and I can see why. The GV70 is an exciting addition to a very competitive category; it has a fresh design, two powerful engines, precise steering, an engaging drive and there’s great value in this 2.5T model. The amount of standard features this SUV comes with is impressive. A 14.5” touchscreen, 8” LCD instrument display cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated steering wheel and heated front seats. If you want leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and ventilated front seats, you have to move up one from the base model for an extra $6,000 CAD. We are driving the Advanced Plus model for $59,000 CAD. Some extra features on this model include, a head-up display, an 18-speaker Lexicon audio system and blind spot view monitor. The top Prestige trim for $63,000 CAD comes with the sport appearance package, Nappa leather seats with suede trim, parking collision avoidance and park assist. Unfortunately, the only way to get the sport steering wheel is in the sport appearance package, which is only available on this top 2.5T trim and 3.5T models. Competition to the GV70 2.5T includes, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, 255 horsepower and a starting price of $49,900 CAD. The 2.5T gets 10.7L/100km, 22 MPG city and 8.4L/100km, 28 MPG highway.
