Tuesday midday tropical update: Major Hurricane Eta moves into Nicaragua

Powerful Hurricane Eta is moving inland over northern Nicaragua on Tuesday afternoon with intense wind, rain and storm surge.

Eta will weaken quickly once inland over the mountainous terrain of Nicaragua and Honduras. It could be a depression or remnant low by Thursday.

Whatever is left of the system will likely reemerge over the northwest Caribbean Sea by Saturday, and it could reorganize into a tropical storm by Sunday.
