Good for the brain, body and spirit! Point of information (keep in mind, while watching the video!) Many people with dementia find reading no longer possible. Do not put words in front of the patient; it will only confuse them. Some of the caregivers were trying to share their lyrics with the patients, but that isn't helpful. This is about cueing verbally what's about to be sung before it happens; as well as using hand signals and overemphasizing lip movement, in order to job their memory. Also of great help are the warm-up techniques, which focus mainly on the patient humming and touching places in the body to feel singing vibrations, and stretching arms and face muscles, to marry the physical to the mental (creating new brain synapses). Caregivers are encouraged to follow the written, and practice cueing the patient in advance; even possibly accompanying them on piano or guitar.
