FrSky Taranis Review (part 2) the teardown

In this video I take a look inside the FrSky Taranis and examine the overall quality of construction.

Bottom line?

It is a very well designed and constructed radio with first-class soldering and attention to detail. The build-quality is every bit as good as far more expensive radios from JR, Spektrum and Futaba.

Unfortunately the antenna is hard-wired so modifications for a removable antenna will require the use of some skill and a soldering iron.

The 32-bit ARM processor has far more power than the 8-bit processors often found in other radios such as the FlySky Turnigy 9X and yes, the sticks do use ball-bearings.

The LCD display is large and crystal clear with a nice bright blue backlight that make it easy to read in all lighting conditions.

The standard NiMH battery will work just fine but many people will opt to replace it with a 2S lipo and no soldering will be required - you can simply plug the balance lead into the socket provided.
