The nest is on a utility pole about 80 feet above a sports field at Cornell University. USA According to scientific literature, red-tailed hawks typically incubate their eggs for about 28-35 days, but hawks at this site tend to incubate slightly longer.
The female, nicknamed "Big Red" by the viewing community in honor of Cornell University, is noticeably larger, with a darker head, nape, and throat. She has a numbered band on her right leg. The male, Arthur, was named after the founder of the Cornell Laboratory, Arthur A. Allen. He is bandless, has brighter eyes, and a paler chest, head, and nape than Big Red.
Records show Big Red was banded in the nearby town of Brooktondale, New York, during its first fall in 2003. Local birders first spotted Arthur on the Cornell University campus as a rookie in 2016.
It is difficult to tell if the chicks are male or female just by looking at them, but the females tend to be noticeably larger than the males as early as three weeks after hatching. The only way to know for sure is through DNA testing.

After leaving the nest: Young hawks will generally remain in the area. Their parents will continue to feed them for several weeks or months.
When the chicks hatch, they weigh about 58 grams.
Sometimes behaviors that seem alarming, such as repeated pecking, do not result in serious injury. In other cases, especially during food shortages, intense aggression can result in one sibling killing the other, luckily the latter did not occur in this nest, everything went perfectly
They can be aggressive towards other animals when defending territories and nests. Although their beaks seem sharp, their claws are their main weapons.
