#MT16 - Making a Digital Speed Display (RPM, Tachometer) for Sieg mini and lathe. By Andrew Whale.
I hope you like this video of me making a Digital Speed Display for my Sieg SC3 mini lathe and SX2P mini mill.
Andrew McWhirter inspired me to have a go at making this and he was kind enough to provide me with instructions, parts list and the Arduino program. Andrew did a fantastic job in creating this version of the program.
I understand that Jeff Nelson (of Macpod LLC) undertook all the original investigation and ground work by analysing signals coming from the Sieg SX2P. He then developed a basic Arduino program and came up with the original design. The guy is an absolute genious!
Please check out his site at https://macpod.net where you can purchase a Digital Speed Display in kit form. This is far easier than trying to source all the components and build one yourself.
However, if you would like to have a go at making one like I did, then please enter the following link in your browser to download the zip file for the documentation - you no longer need to email me:
The public link to this is: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AswDmAvuCnLqgQM9WUX-NyVC8OVy?e=fi5JZ9
I purchased the Arduino Nano from banggood:
https://eu.banggood.com/custlink/vmKGJ1HZuw
The digital display was also purchased from banggood:

It was a really satisfying project to undertake and it helped me learn more about my SC3 mini lathe and SX2P mini mill. I have a computer programming background and it was also very interesting analysing the C code.
If you can offer any help or advice, please leave a comment.

WARNING: Metal turning can be dangerous! I am not sure whether the methods I use are established ones, and I do not recommend them.
Please do not copy me without doing your own risk assessments!
