KTM RC 200 ABS Review

Quick Comparison
KTM RC 200 is the major lead into KTM’s race bikes. The bike is definitely a sight to behold for its amazing style and striking details. The outstanding looks and performance of the bike have made it instantly desirable among the youth. The 2017 KTM RC 200 was launched recently and comes with black, white and orange theme with very little colour reversal. The sports bike comes with all of the premium equipment like USD forks, projector headlights, aerodynamic design. RC 200 competes against Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and Honda CBR250R in India. The 200cc engine along with a respectable mileage figure has a top-notch performance.
2017 KTM RC 200 differs from KTM RC 390 only from its colour scheme, engine size and weight. There is a steel tube trellis edge frame, furnished with an upside-down front fork and a swing-arm with adaptable mono-shock. The motorcycles feature clip-on handlebars and the rear seat is very well integrated into the chassis of the motorcycle. At present, RC 200 is the best-looking motorcycle in its segment and it is a sure shot head-turner. KTM RC 200 is powered by the liquid cooled 4-stroke 199.5 cc engine. It is a mono-cylinder, 4 valves, with a BS4 emission standard. The bike is designed to pump out a power of 24.65 bhp @ 10,000 rpm with utmost torque of 19.2 Nm @ 8000 rpm. This engine is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox with one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern. In city conditions, the mileage of RC 200 ranges from 25-30 kmpl while on highways one can expect anything around 30-35 kmpl.
KTM RC 200 features a digital tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer with other LED indicators with a funky gear shift light. To top it all, the Austrian manufacturer has given the instrumentation an indicator that reminds the rider when to shift gears to attain optimum performance. The KTM RC 200 is shortly equipped which means that you can ride at higher speed even without lifting a finger. The aerodynamic design of the bike allows the rider to bend forward with knees rolled back in perfect position.
With its low seating, one can easily find a firm hold on this bike which gives you the confidence to rule the road which is absent on other bikes but the seat is pretty aggressive. You need to lean forward while riding KTM RC200. This posture puts a lot of pressure on wrists and they start painting in event of long rides. The dual headlights of KTM RC 200 allow you to get a clear view of roads at night and confirms you safe driving. However, KTM should have equipped the RC 200 with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). it is quite surprising to see that a bike priced at INR 1.75 lakhs is not equipped with a must-have safety feature. Even Bajaj is offering ABS in Pulsar RS200 for an additional amount of INR 12,000. KTM RC 200 has the telescopic upside down forks at its front with linked type mono-shocker at its back. The bike takes most of the bumps with ease and feels free to cross most of the speed breakers and potholes without any complaint. The suspension system confirms that the high seated pillion rider also get stress free and comfortable ride.
The bike has a 300mm Disc brake with four-pot brake caliper at the front and 230mm brake with one-pot brake caliper at the rear. The bigger discs have resulted in more precise and safe braking which confirms you a safe ride. Still, we feel KTM should offer ABS on RC 200. The RC 200 is more of a screamer and hits the limiter in top gear around 140 kmph. The bike holds the road firmly and the moment you set off, that revving nature makes you just want to wring every bit of performance out of the engine and the even sweeter handling chassis.
The amazing chassis and sharper steering can make you push the bike to its limits which is rather thrilling. But if you are looking for a bike to use for long rides, then RC 200 is not suitable for you, it can cause serious wrist and lower back pain. Duke 200 is better than RC 200 in terms of overall ride comfort. KTM RC 200 is a more viable bike, with better engine configuration, and more usable power. The bike is more refined in terms of engine sound resulting into secluding engine noise to a larger extent. For those with the courage and vision to follow their sense of adventure, KTM is the perfect match. True adventurers, permanently challenging themselves, looking to new horizons for the next goal, destination or opponent to conquer. It is sure to grab the attention on the road and turn several eyes.
