A group of Australian women and children linked to Islamic State fighters are on their way back to Australia, where some will face immediate arrest.

Some are on a flight from Doha to Melbourne, while another flight is expected to land in Sydney.

The government here has always maintained that while it would not help the ISIS-linked families get home, it doesn't have the power to stop them.
