Portable Hamstick Dipole Experiment (20m)

As a new ham, and an even newer "General" licensed ham, I've been looking for ways to combine the hobby with my passion for overlanding and the outdoors. With a roadtrip to Colorado and some overlanding fun coming up, I wanted a nice portable antenna rig to work HF while boondocking in the beautiful Colorado mountains.

I settled on a horizontal dipole made up of a pair of 20m and 40m hamsticks fixed to a PVC mast that I can piece together out of several 4-5' sections. I'm still working out how mount it alongside the Crosstrek, so look for that in a future video. For now, I just clamped it in a jawhorse for tuning and testing.

With a 1,000mi + contact on the first try, I'll call this experiment a win, and I can't wait to get on the road and test it out from camp.

Hamsticks and dipole adapter are from DX Engineering:
