2019 Volvo VNL 64T 860 Globetrotter XL Seeper Truck Exterior Interior

The Volvo VNL series is for drivers taking on the tough jobs—those that need to haul an extremely heavy load. And in order to power through it all day-after-day, your semi-truck needs to come equipped with great powertrain options.
The first engine offered in the 2019 VNL 860 is the Volvo D13, which produces 375-500 HP and 1,450-1,850 lb-ft of torque.

The D13 is a lighter weight engine, which allows it to reduce its operating costs and still meet emissions standards. It also has Dual-Torque ratings which allow drivers to choose between the fuel economy of lower torque and sheer power of higher torque.

The other available engine is the Cummins X15, which generates between 400-565 HP and 1,450-1,850 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is well-suited for freight applications, as it can deliver peak torque at lower engine speeds.

Vehicles such as this are thought of as pure muscle machines. However, the Volvo VNL 860 was actually designed with fuel efficiency in mind.

This is apparent in its exterior, which in the latest iteration is the most aerodynamic and fuel-efficient version yet.

The VNL 860 has a new hood, bumper, and lower airflow deflector. Together, these features channel the airflow to the rear of the vehicle, propelling the VNL 860 forward. The improved side chassis fairings only optimize this flow.

In addition to this design, the VNL 860 is endowed with a more efficient transmission. I-Shift uses intelligence to constantly monitor your vehicle’s performance, including engine loads, speeds, and grades. With this information, it can adapt its shifts for more fuel-efficient usage.
