Utopia Project - Ian Rankin Interview - Hidden Door Live
To kick off the PCPQ x HIDDEN DOOR UTOPIA PROJECT, Lily and Gordon of Post Coal Prom Queen interviewed acclaimed author Ian Rankin about his thoughts on utopias. They touch on the ecstasy of live music, how criminal justice reform can improve society, and the idea that human nature simply doesn't allow for a utopia.
Do you think utopias are possible? Let us know in the comments.
ABOUT HIDDEN DOOR LIVE
We have handed over the reins to artists, musicians and dancers to enable their ideas in creating unique and immersive online events. Each project sees the guest-curator take control of Hidden Door’s social media for a look behind the scenes as the work takes shape, culminating in a live show.
The project has received funding from Creative Scotland and The National Lottery’s Open Fund: Sustaining Creative Development Programme, allowing every participant to be paid fairly for their contribution to the shows.
ABOUT THE UTOPIA PROJECT
For as long as humans have dreamed, we have looked at the world around us and wondered how to make it better – how to make it perfect. These attempts have manifested as some of humanity’s greatest triumphs and most tragic failures. Now, in what is destined to continue that noble tradition, Post Coal Prom Queen and Hidden Door welcome you to the UTOPIA PROJECT, streaming live on Thursday 29 April 2021.
PCPQ filmed interviews with four of Scotland’s most interesting arts and culture personalities to ask them what utopia means to them and about their favourite visions of the future. These fascinating interviews will be published over the next two weeks on the run up to a very special Post Coal Prom Queen live show – debuting songs from their upcoming EP – filmed at The Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh. On the night, PCPQ will be joined by Mio Shudo – a traditional Japanese storyteller – who will share a beautiful story on a utopian theme. In their UK live premiere, we’ll also be bringing you an exclusive live set filmed in Tokyo from the stunningly unique Japanese electronic innovators macaroom.
These interviews, stories, and cross-cultural events epitomise the PCPQ vision of a utopia – a world of beautiful collaboration unburdened by borders. During the two weeks of the UTOPIA PROJECT you can share your visions of utopia with us by using the hashtag #PCPQUtopiaProject.
