Dominic Sandbrook: Has Labour Lost the Working Class Vote Forever? History & the Cancel Culture Wars
Our guest on this episode of "So What You're Saying Is..." ( #SWYSI ) is the celebrated British historian, broadcaster & columnist Dominic Sandbrook. Well known for his acclaimed TV documentaries as well as his monumental history books on Britain since the 1950s, Dominic is also a columnist for the Sunday Times and Daily Mail.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Dominic and Peter Whittle discuss many topics, including:
* The demise of the football Super League and why it matters. Dominic argues that the football club is the only working class institution that people can still identify with and that in large part explains the strength of the reaction to the Super League.
* Whether the Labour party will be able to count on working class votes in the future or if their traditional voters have permanently shifted to the right, having been taken for granted by a party they no longer recognise.
* America's cultural shift, hyper-polarization and historical iconoclasm.
* Cancel Culture and the dangers of the current trend of crude & "stupid" historical revisionism in the UK
* The importance of a sound education in history
