Armenia: Russian helicopters escort convoy of peacekeepers en route to Nagorno-Karabakh

Russian helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-24 successfully escorted a military convoy of peacekeepers to the settlements of Goris and Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh on Saturday.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the combat helicopter crews monitored the implementation of agreements on a ceasefire, as well as lending a hand regarding the delivery of logistical equipment to inaccessible areas in the conflict zone.

In addition, the military transport aircraft An-124 'Ruslan' reportedly delivered eight more helicopters to the airfield in Yerevan.

Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to cease fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh region starting from 01:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on November 9. Under the terms of the peace deal, Azerbaijan obtains control of the territory it has taken in the most recent fighting, with Armenia giving up further areas in the coming month.

The deal also sees around 2,000 Russian peacekeepers deployed to the region to guard a road connecting the remaining part of the unrecognised republic of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.

Baku and Yerevan also agreed to resume economic relations and transport communication in the region, as well as exchange prisoners and return bodies of the deceased.
