Witness the crowning of Miss Universe 1988 Porntip Nakhirunkanok of Thailand. Miss Universe 1988, the 37th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 24 May 1988 at the Lin Kou Stadium in Taipei, Taiwan. Crowned by Cecilia Bolocco of Chile. 66 contestants competed in this year. For the first time ever, the 4 of the 5 finalists were from Asia with contestants from Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Thailand. Miss Mexico was the only contestant from South America to enter the top 5 ranking!
