Is Anyone Safe When Radiation Zombies Descend on Our Cities?

Nuclear fallout causes humans to transform into mutant zombie vampires! In this horror movie recap we'll be running through a full movie summary of the 1980 Italian classic Nightmare City (City of the Walking Dead). A strange nuclear event turns a group of people into hyper-regenerative mutants with low red blood cell counts and a thirst for violence. So, when a transport plane full of them lands at an airport, they spill out and begin slaughtering the population. As the authorities attempt to keep a lid on this to quell public panic, they also find themselves incapable of adequately containing the threat.

As they work on this, journalist Dean Miller (Hugo Stiglitz) is in a race to get to the hospital to save his wife Anna. On the front lines of the violence, he is one of the few citizens who is aware of the danger they all face. Can he find her, and will they be successful in their race for survival? Only time will tell.

An additional note on the monsters: the mutants thirst for blood thanks to their low count, and can also transfer their radioactive material to their victims. In addition, the regenerative qualities require them to be put down via headshot. What this amounts to is a crowd of mutant, zombie vampires who can spread their plight to others. Although, it's never fully discussed in the film what, exactly, they're meant to be. And, while Anna brings up some traditional vampire mythology on their journey, this is never examined further or mentioned anywhere else within the film. So enjoy!
