Extreme winter in Russia: Avalanches, piles of snow, chunks of ice fall from above

Every winter, community services in Russia try to struggle against snow and ice on the roofs of buildings in Russian cities and towns. However, as it usually happens, man is too weak to win the fight with the power of nature.

Roofs of residential buildings may crack and collapse under the weight of snow and ice. News reports about such incidents appear in Russia on a regular basis during winter time, and videos showing piles of snow falling down to the ground from rooftops go viral on the Internet. However, chunks of ice, snow and icicles may at times injure and even kill unsuspecting people, including children. For the time being, there is no information as per how many people have been killed this winter in Russia as a result of such tragic incidents. Unfortunately, it appears that the number will be an impressive one as more snowfalls are expected this year before spring arrives.
