Back to 1934, it was a painful chapter in history for Blacks in America and also a time when African-Americans were depicted negatively in comics, cartoons and mainstream media often as racial stereotypes. But all that was about to change with the creation of a character who started out as a stereotypical strongman sidekick, but later thankfully evolved into a character that would go on to make comic book history.
