No Crank Ram 1500… I Almost Made a Bad Call!

This 2019 Ram 1500 came in with a no-crank condition and some seriously strange network behavior. The instrument cluster was acting erratic, and multiple critical modules like the RF Hub, BCM, and PCM weren’t communicating on the CAN bus.
Using a PicoScope and circuit testing through the star connectors, I narrowed it down to what looked like a failed PCM… but things didn’t quite add up. After additional testing and a bench verification, I had to go back and rethink the entire diagnosis. What I found next completely changed the direction of the repair.
This is a great case study on CAN bus diagnostics, avoiding misdiagnosis, and why verifying your assumptions is critical—especially before calling a major component like an engine computer.
