Dr. Shilpa Das is Principal Faculty in Interdisciplinary Design Studies and Head, Ph.D. Program at the National Institute of Design (NID), India. An alumnus of JNU New Delhi (MA) and TISS Mumbai (Ph.D.), she has cumulative work experience of almost three decades in the education, publishing, and voluntary sectors. She is very active in the disability sector in India, teaches modules on Disability Studies and Feminist Disability Studies among other subjects in universities in India and overseas, and has several publications on disability to her credit. She has worked as an Advisory Board member on projects with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID on women’s reproductive health in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and India, as well as to create a public good on the role of human-centered design in global health, develop resources for global health practitioners to use HCD, and create a strategic road-map for demonstrating the successful application of HCD in global health.
