Sibynomorphus turgidus is a very tame but opisthoglyphous snake, just over 300 mm in size in males, barely 500 mm in females, with short pointed tails, in males less than 1/6 of their total length, even shorter in females. Body somewhat more cylindrical and stockier than S. mikani; oval head distinct from the neck, with slightly protruding eyes and blunt snout. Cephalic lepidosis and body lepidosis, dorsal and ventral. Ventrals 153-160 in males, 153-168 in females; anal entire; subcaudals 47-52 in males, 41-51 in females.
Coloration: its details must be taken into account because they constitute a fundamental diagnostic element for the discrimination of the small ophidian. Head almost completely black, very dark brown on top, with symmetrical yellow vernicular lines; laterally lighter, especially on the supralabials, dotted with black dots. Gulars and geneials yellowish-whitish, immaculate or barely maculated by melanic pigment.
Dorsally a brownish-grayish background, sometimes quite dark, with 25-40 dark brown or blackish spots edged with white: the first 3-5 wider than the intermediate spaces and extended to the ventral ones, often merging their white borders to the exclusion of the background color. The successive spots, more irregular and rounded, are reducing their extension, laterally no more below the 5th row of dorsal scales: between them can be insinuated numerous lateral elongated black spots coming from the ventral ones and reaching the 3rd or 4th dorsal scale. Tail coloration similar to that of the body, with dark enlarged spots penetrating the subcaudal ones; ventral face whitish-yellowish with irregular presence of black spots, particularly at the extremities of the scales, where they determine series or continuous bilateral lines, more or less noticeable depending on the populations.

Sibynomorphus turgidus es una serpiente muy mansa aunque opistoglifa, de tamaño poco más de 300 mm en los machos, apenas 500 mm en las hembras, con colas cortas puntiagudas, en los machos menos de 1/6 de su longitud total, todavía más reducida en las hembras. Cuerpo algo más cilíndrico y rechoncho que el S. mikani; cabeza ovalada distinta del cuello, con ojos poco sobresaliente y hocico romo. Lepidosis cefálica y lepidosis del cuerpo, dorsal y ventral. Ventrales 153-160 en los machos, 153-168 en las hembras; anal entera; subcaudales 47-52 en los machos, 41-51 en las hembras.
Coloración: sus detalles deben ser tenidos muy en cuenta por constituir un elemento diagnóstico fundamental para la discriminación del pequeño ofidio. Cabeza casi completamente negra marrón muy oscuro superiormente, con líneas verniculares amarillas simétricas; lateralmente más clara, en particular en las supralabiales, salpicadas por puntos negros. Gulares y geneiales amarillento-blanquecinas, inmaculadas o apenas maculadas por pigmento melánico.
Dorsalmente un fondo parduzco-grisáceo, a veces bastante oscuro, con 25-40 manchas marrón oscuro o negruzcas ribeteadas de blanco: las primeras 3-5 más anchas que los espacios intermedios y extendidas hasta las ventrales, fusionando a menudo sus ribetes blanco con exclusión del color de fondo. Las manchas sucesivas, más irregulares y redondeadas, van reduciendo su extensión, lateralmente no más debajo de la 5a hilera de escamas dorsales: entre ellas pueden insinuarse numerosas manchas negras alargadas laterales que vienen de las ventrales y alcanzan la 3a o 4a escama dorsal. Coloración de la cola similar a la del cuerpo, con manchas agrandadas oscuras penetrando en las subcaudales; faz ventral blanquecino-amarillenta con presencia irregular de manchas negras, particularmente en las extremidades de las escamas, donde determinan series o líneas continuas bilaterales, más o menos notorias según las poblaciones.
