A visit to the Great Blasket Island, Ireland

The Great Blasket Ireland off the coast of County Kerry in southwest Ireland, is the only one of the Blasket islands the public can now visit after the archipelago was abandoned in the 1950s. A boat trip across the Blasket Sound - a tretcherous waterway that even the famous Spanish Armada fell victim to - brings visitors back to the time of Peig Sayers and Tomas O'Crohan, and to the remains of a village now taken over by the beautiful wildlife.
