Kolkata-Based Startup Launches Made in India Marine Robots for River Mapping And Inspection

A family in Kolkata is making India’s first indigenous Marine robots.

Banergy – started by the Banerjee family – is building ROVs and USVs for underwater inspection, river mapping, and hydrographic surveys.

They have been testing the equipment at Prinsep Ghat on the Hooghly River.

Current prototypes are a simple cylindrical ROV with dual thrusters and an unmanned surface vehicle with a catamaran structure. All built in India.

The company partners with Blue Robotics – an authorized distributor – for global parts coupled with Indian engineering.

The objective is simple: lower India’s reliance on foreign-made marine technology.

Underwater survey and inspection activities in India are dominated by imported technology.

Banergy is here to change this.

Rakhi Banerjee (Managing Director), Swarnab Banerjee (Operations), and Rishav Banerjee (Engineering), leading the team, say Banergy was “born from Indian rivers.”

It’s a start-up that actually builds something, tests it in real-world conditions, and focuses on addressing a very real problem.

India’s rivers, ports, and coastline are in need of inspection, mapping, and surveillance.

Banergy is building devices for just this, from Kolkata.
