Óró, Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile, written by Pádraig Pearse.

Originally a Irish Jacobite song about Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") who is called "Shéarlais Oig, Mhic Rí Shéamais" (Young Charles, son of King James") as stated in the first line of the song, is the one who was welcomed home to claim his birthright in 1745.

The lyrics of this newer version were written by Pádraig Pearse, one of the leaders of the Irish Rebellion of 1916, as an invitation to all Irishmen away from Ireland to return home and join the fight for independence. Gráinne Mhaol or Gránuaile is an alternate way in Irish to refer to the famous rebel and pirate queen Gráinne Ní Mháille (Grace O'Malley), noted for her resistance against queen Elizabeth I of England, and who remained in popular memory as a figure of Irish independence fighting.
