Revision Abdominoplasty Surgery [ 2020 ]

If you’re not happy with the result of your first abdominoplasty, then an abdominoplasty revision surgery can help. Many patients come to see Dr. Bernard Beldholm, FRACS for revision surgery. As a highly experienced specialist body contouring surgeon, he can greatly improve the results of the first surgery.

The 9 most common reasons for a revision abdominoplasty are:
- Need abdominoplasty liposuction
- Still have loose skin
- Bad abdominoplasty scar/incision
- Repairing separated abdominal muscles
- Skin around incision doesn’t line up nicely
- Loose skin after a future pregnancy
- Gaining then losing weight again
- Belly button revision

Abdominoplasty problems can happen for many reasons. Choosing an inexperienced surgeon is one of them. Choosing the wrong surgical approach is another. For example, some patients get a standard abdominoplasty when they really needed an abdominoplasty with liposuction or an abdominoplasty with muscle repair. You may have even had a mini abdominoplasty, then later realized you would be happier if you had all the loose skin on your tummy removed, not just the lower abdomen.

Poor wound healing and abdominoplasty scars are another factor. Perhaps the incision was made crooked or too wide, or the skin flaps don’t line up evenly. Or maybe you just ended up with a bad abdominoplasty scar because of how your skin healed. Skin infection can also cause poor scar healing.

Belly button revision may also be needed. The navel shouldn’t look too round!

Then there are lifestyle factors that can affect the results of your first abdominoplasty. For example, you may unexpectedly become pregnant, leaving you with loose skin again. Gaining then losing a substantial amount of weight in the future can have the same effect. A revision abdominoplasty can also touch up loose skin caused by aging if you had an abdominoplasty decades ago.

Doctor Bernard talks about what to expect during abdominoplasty revision surgery, as well as some special considerations you should know about before moving forward with revision surgery. Safety and aesthetic outcomes will also be covered in the video. Watch to learn if a revision abdominoplasty is right for you.
