I decided to leave my nine to five office job and take a career break.

I've been wanting to take a career break from the corporate world for some time and this felt like the right time. Why am I taking a gap year?

The office grind was making me unhappy. And then the pandemic hit and it made me re-evaluate my life. I realised that a 9-5 office job and its sedentary lifestyle was causing lots of health problems and there was no space for my creativity. It felt like a never ending rat race.

Taking a career break in your 30s can be daunting. How do you take a career break? You definitely need to prepare yourself, both mentally and financially.

Many people were surprised (or even shocked) when I told them I'm taking a break from work and my career.

They just couldn't understand what on earth I will be doing with all the free time.

They also immediately projected their own fears onto me. That's okay, I get it.. because I experience those same fears and doubts.

The truth is, there's never a perfect time for a break. So I thought - why not in my 30s? Should I wait until my 40s? Or my 50s? Or even until my retirement?

My goal is to use my career break to learn new skills on growing food, sustainability, mindfulness, and slow living.
