Bruno & Lucille [Suite Française] || A Thousand Years

A very romantic video on a very very romantic song and very... Nazi film. Yeah, I know, those words don't work together lol.

I do here my first video here on one of my favorite films ever, "Suite Française", adapted from a novel written by a Jewish woman in the 1940s, which tells the love story between a young French woman and a German soldier. Yes, you read that right, a Jewish woman who wrote a love story on a Nazi directly in the times of World War II, I admit that I would have loved to meet this woman to ask her what message she was trying to send with this novel (which I must read elsewhere, because I only watched the movie) but unfortunately, as for many people in this terrible era, she died in a concentration camp. She was a known novelist, apparently, before being arrested because she was Jewish, but this book, "Suite Française" is a manuscript (not completed) found years later by her daughter in her personal effects. Her name is Irene Némirovsky. As her daughter says, the fact that this book could be published is a victory, not a revenge.

I'm not going to talk about the book because I haven't read it (I have to correct that!) but I really loved the film, I have saw it at the cinema when it came out in 2014, it's one of my favorite films.

The story therefore highlights Lucille, a young woman trapped in an unhappy marriage in the French countryside in 1940, in the middle of World War II. Her husband went to war and she stuck with her tyrannical mother-in-law, who deprives her stepdaughter of her only pleasure, playing the piano, because she refuses to let the slightest music resound in their house as long as her son did not return. Apparently, they own several farms and dwellings and seem to be tyrannical owners, except Lucille, who is still uncomfortable with the cruel behavior of her mother-in-law.
One day, when France is invaded by the Germans, the village of Lucille finds itself taken by a convoy of soldiers and the largest houses must each accommodate a general. This is how Bruno von Falk enters Lucille's life. A bond is forged very quickly between them, linked by a common passion for music, composition and the piano. They fall in love despite the fact that they are in opposite camps (Lucille will later become a resistance fighter), despite the fact that they are both married, and despite the disapproval and the nightmare that reigns around them. They will be almost cut off from the world, for a moment, unfortunately, reality catches up with them quickly.

I loved this love story, and also, the beauty of this film, very aesthetic and cinematographic, and I honestly fell in love with Matthias Schoenaerts, a very talented Belgian actor. I usually like actress Michelle Williams a lot less, but I enjoyed her in this movie. It's a really amazing film, which I advise to everyone, there is never enough love story in the worst periods of our history and this one have so much elegance, beauty and it's so well written that it can only please you, not to mention that it is worn by excellent actors. I recently edited this film for my collab "This Love" and it made me want to devote an entire video to it, a video of which I am proud and I hope you will enjoy it too.
