Igbo traditional marriage ( igba Nkwu)

It’s basically the same thing in every aspect of igbo land, this one happened in Nnobi Anambra state. Igbo people call their traditional marriage Igba Nkwu and it usually takes place in the girl’s family house.

Before Igba Nkwu, bride price must have been paid by the man, some pay before the Igba Nkwu while some pay on the same day.

The most important part of Igba Nkwu is when the girl is given palm wine by her father and asked to go look for her husband in the crowd and bring him to him for blessings.
