RLC circuit phasors generate voltage waveform spaghetti! #ACcircuits #physics

Rotating RLC circuit phasors generate waveform spaghetti in this animated illustration of phasor analysis physics.

In the upper window we view the rotating phasor diagram for the RLC circuit including phasors for the resistor, inductor and capacitor, in addition to the NET voltage phasor which is found as the vector sum of the other three phasors.

In the lower window, we view the sinusoidal voltage functions generated by the phasors by taking their horizontal projections. This graph looks like spaghetti, because we're simultaneously visualizing four sinusoidal functions, but the implications are profound: adding three of these sinusoidal functions for the R, L and C voltages yields the fourth sinusoidal function: the bold white net voltage function for the RLC circuit.
