This new and rather exciting earbud headset from ROSESELSA has some interesting features such as AI active noise cancellation, multipoint pairing and a 54ms  low latency gaming mode. All of these features can be controlled through the ROSELINK app as well as on the earbuds themselves.

All the latest boxes are ticked – Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C charging, IP5 water resistant. The EARFREE-i5 in addition is very robust, has an attractive ABS charging case and unlike many of the rivals, the buds are not hard to remove from the magnetic case.

In the box, you receive the wireless earbuds, a charging case, a charging cable, 4 gel pairs (one prefitted) and a user guide. Everything has a quality feel to it and without the flimsiness of some rivals. It all looks good, seems well made and distinctly above average.

These earbuds use Bluetooth 5.3 technology which is supported by the latest high-end smartphones but of course, they will also work with older Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth 5 adds a longer range and greatly improves both the stability of the wireless connection and battery life and v5.3 gives even better sound quality, greater range and enhanced reliability.

You can pair to your phone using Bluetooth in two ways.
If you have the ROSELINK app installed, just remove the buds from the case - they will automatically enter pairing mode - and click on the 'add new device' button inside the app. Otherwise you can pair them in the usual way using the Bluetooth control panel on your phone and looking for the nearby device ‘ROSE CERAMICS X' to pair to.

Subsequently, taking the buds from the case powers them on, and they connect to the phone automatically, returning them to the case turns them off and begins charging.

This headset can connect to two Bluetooth phones simultaneously. To do so after pairing to the first phone, keep the headset turned on but switch off Bluetooth on the first phone and pair the headset to the second. When the first device is turned on again it will automatically connect to the headset simultaneously with the second. Remember to enable the 'Dual Device Connection' option in the app first.

Using the app I was able to select from several audio presets as well as giving the ability to turn off the touch buttons on the buds themselves, so no more accidental track skipping or audio muting! The app can also be used to switch on Gaming Mode and ANC, neither of which features interest me much and to monitor battery status, change the headset volume and update the firmware.

If you don't want to use the app, the soft touch buttons on the buds can be used to end/reject calls, play/pause music, navigate tracks, alter volume and invoke your phone’s voice assistant and enter Gaming Mode.

Yes, there is a gaming mode and when this is active the latency of the headset is reduced to just 54ms, very useful for gamers, but less so for me.

Another feature is the Active Noise Control. This is used to reduce extraneous noise picked up by the microphone when making calls. There are four settings - ANC, Wind (to reduce wind noise when calling), Normal, and Trans. Trans mode turns the microphones on all the time to allow you to hear outside noise better and this indeed does work well, although I doubt if I will ever use it.

You should get at about 10 hours of music time from each 90-minute bud charge and about 50 hours in total from a fully charged case, which also takes just 90 minutes to charge. There is a tiny charging status LED on the case which changes colour to indicate charging status. A more informative charging status for the buds can be found using the app. One nice feature is the fast charging top up with just 10 minutes of case charging giving around several hours of music playback.

The buds are IPX5 water resistant and should be fine in light rain but don’t immerse them in water or use them in sustained heavy downpours.

The buds are small, neat and comfortable to wear even up to the full 10 hours of music per charge. Calls were clear to hear and easy to make, perhaps due to onboard AI microphone noise reduction. I found call quality to be fine at each end of the conversation with no dropouts or excessive background noise.

But what of the sound quality?
It's excellent - the sound is very detailed and precise with great separation and clarity. If you are looking for mega bass then these may not be for you but if you want a clean, clear and accurate sound then this headset will take some beating at this or any other price point.
