Pole Barn Build Part 7 - Setting Rafters

Pole Barn Build Part 7 - Setting Rafters by Mitchell Dillman offers a close look into the process of cutting and setting rafters on a simple post and beam style out building. https://ColoradoSpringsSawmill.com

This video features the next step in building a pole-barn. A rafter is a structural component that is used as part of a roof construction. Typically, it runs from the ridge or hip of the roof to the wall plate of the external wall. Rafters are laid in series, side by side, providing a base to support roof decks, or roof sheathing. In this case, the rafters are spaced at five feet to support purlins which will provide the structural elements to fasten metal roofing material.

This pole barn roof is designed on a 3/12 pitch utilizing a 6 1/2" seat cut. There will be no eave which eliminates the need for rafter tails.
