Mt. Wolf (feat. Henry Green) - Baja

We are releasing this single 'Baja' in conjunction with a film about a whale sanctuary in Baja California, Mexico. Baja, the earth’s second-longest peninsula, offers over 1200km of the mystical, ethereal, majestic and untamed.

The track is a collaboration with our friend, and Akira Records’ label mate, Henry Green, and was born from a session one night in his attic studio in his hometown of Malmesbury. Henry has co-written, produced and his vocals are layered & sampled on the track. The song is mixed by Tristan Hoogland (James Blake, SG Lewis, Golden Vessel), and mastered by Kevin Tuffy (Headie One, Honne, Matt Maltese).

The film was shot and directed by underwater cinematographer Perrin James (National Geographic, Discovery Channel), and features his fiancee free diver Morgan Mathers, connecting with whales in the land of her ancestors. We have previously collaborated with Perrin and Morgan on a film for our track 'Burgs' and are so excited to be able to do so again.

"We have been filming this one for a while but the biggest missing piece is Morgan interacting with humpback whales and the wildlife down in Baja California. There is a grey whale sanctuary that used to be a place where they were slaughtered. We want to show that with protection there are little success stories around the world. There is another intertwining piece and that’s Morgan’s reconnection with Mexico and the people there. We want to show a reconnecting of cultures intertwined with a story of hope of these once endangered animals.

This film was incredibly special to me. I've been working down in Baja California for almost ten years now on various projects. The latest have been ecotourism based expeditions working with different local communities. We film and document the wildlife while giving local people a different means of income in these remote fishing towns. Sharing this underwater world with my fiancee has given my work a new sense of creativity and a deeper meaning. It was her first time to many of these places and watching her reconnect with her culture and explore these Mexican waters has been absolutely beautiful. It's been a pleasure to work with Mt Wolf on these short films and inspiring to see music lend a hand in sharing what's worth protecting in our oceans."
