Motoz Tractionator Rallz review: best 30/70 knobbies?︱Cross Training Adventure

http://crosstrainingenduro.com Our long term Motoz Tractionator Rallz review. Best 30/70 adventure knobby? It's definitely a contender. Five months ago we discussed our first impressions of the Motoz Rallz tyres. There were so many reports of great longevity and off-road traction we were keen to try the Motoz Tractionator Rallz on the DR650. Our first impressions? An excellent dual-sport tyre. Close to the performance of knobbies off-road. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. A lot less road noise with the Motoz Rallz. And a lot more predictable on road surfaces. And it certainly looked as though they were going to last a long time in this Motoz Tractionator review. There was minimal wear after our first few rides. We have now used the Motoz Tractionator Rallz for eight months in all sorts of terrain for 4000km or 2500 miles. I predict I will get 7000km which is great when I usually only get 2000km out of a Dunlop D606. The front Motoz Rallz tread depth is about 30% worn. The good news is there is none of the unusual wear I get with more aggressive front knobies like the D606. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. Longevity? Very good. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. The rear tread depth has 50% wear at the centre but this should slow down now as the side knobs will take more of the wear. Motoz claim to have a self-sharpening tread pattern. It sounds like clever marketing but I must admit the Motoz Tractionator Rallz knobs are not rounding off to the same degree of full knobbies. Traction? I can't really report here. I am a chicken when it comes to wet bitumenThere is definitely some road noise which is to be expected. But they definitely don't howl like the D606 or Pirelli MT21. It's worth experimenting with air pressure with the Motoz Tractionator Rallz, I found 26psi kept the road noise to a comfortable level. Off-road traction? Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. Very good for the most part. In most conditions the Motoz Rallz performed as well as aggressive knobbies, with the exception of mud where they would clog up a bit sooner due to the tread pattern. However, I did find the front tyre a bit sketchy at different times and prone to washing out with aggressive riding. Road performance is excellent. I was very hesitant to push these tyres on the road but there's no flexing of the side knobs, at least with my mediocre road riding abilities. The Motoz Rallz grip has been fine which is surprising given how long the tyres are lasting. Motoz claim their hybrid compound using silica is the reason. There may be some truth to this. Wet roads? I was more inclined to blame my own riding at first, but I googled around and found a few riders love the rear Motoz but don't like the front tyre for this reason. Why? So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure. Out of interest, quite a few of these riders reported that the Motoz Dual Venture front tyre has worked out better with the added advantage of less road noise too. So this might be worth considering as a match for the Rallz rear. Price? It's great considering the longevity. In Australia the front is about AUD190 (USD120) the rear tyre for my 18 inch rim is about the same (USD133)... about $30 more than a Dunlop D606 but two to three times the longevity. So is the Motoz Tractionator Rallz the holy grail when it comes to the ideal adventure tyre? It's certainly worth considering if you want excellent traction off-road but still decent on-road performance with an acceptable amount of tyre noise. As always, I'm keen to hear from riders who have used it. Or have you found a combination of tyres that works for you? Let us know in the comments.

We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back.
